MERIT SLIPS AWARDED
Term 2 2010

These are colour-coded by subject and are awarded for excellent performance in tests and assignments.

Because all the children work at their appropriate level, all are able to gain these if they work hard.

They are designed to act both as a reward for past achievement and as an incentive for future effort.

This term I have written a total of 72 Merit Slips.

This is a sure sign that most of the children are maintaining, and in many cases lifting, their standard of achievement.

Congratulations to all who have earned them this term, especially to our top performers:

Charlotte and Juliette, who are this term’s joint Top Scholars with an amazing total of 12 Merit Slips each

and also Anna-Sophia with 8, Israel with 7, and Ben with 6.

TRIP TO AUCKLAND ZOO
22nd FEBRUARY 2010

'Yesterday we went to the Zoo because we are studying mammals in Science at the moment.

First we went to the Education Centre and learned lots by studying skulls from a possum and a zebra,

and skins from a red panda and a lion.

We had to name each mammal and say how we could tell this.'

'After our time in the Zoo classroom our teacher told us it was time to go and help feed the giraffe.

We had to wait in line because a lot of people wanted to do it too.

We were all given celery stalks by one of the volunteers.

The giraffe grabbed the stalk with its tongue, which was about 30cm long and bluey-purplish in colour –

apparently this is so it doesn't get sunburnt when feeding in the African desert!'
